WAS-APC is excited to announce the awards finalised for both the Travel Grants and Student Scholarships for the upcoming APA16.

The awardees are:

Female students (each of whom will receive USD1000 to assist with accommodation and travel and WAS-APC will organize and pay registration for the event):

  • Menaga Meenakshisundaram and Nikoleta Ntalamagka.

Mature age female who works in aquaculture (will receive USD1000 to assist with accommodation and travel and WAS-APC will organize and pay registration for the event):

  • Arlyn Mandas.

Student Scholarship (each of whom will receive USD500 to assist with accommodation and travel and WAS-APC will organize and pay registration for the event) :

  • Christopher Ongko and Amit Ranjan.

Additionally, because of the high standard of the applications the judges have agreed that WAS-APC will give these ‘special encouragement’ awards of USD500 to assist with accommodation and travel and WAS-APC will organize and pay registration for the event – these awards go to:

  • Claudia Miglietta; Vaishali Joshi and Renata Melon Barroso.

At APA16 they will all be involved in a range of activities such as assisting on WAS-APC Booth; engaging on Panel on Women in Aquaculture; serving and assisting with Student activities; presenting at the AwF Session about issues in their own country or a regional area of their choice and completing a report including photos on subjects relevant to their involvement.

The theme for Asia Pacific Aquaculture in Surabaya is ‘Profitability, Sustainability, and Responsibility for the Future’ and the event is, according to WAS-APC President, Dr. Farshad Shishehchian, looking like it might be one of the best APA events of all time based on registrations to date and the fact that the Trade Show is already sold out.

The WAS Board has also approved the ‘M.C.Nandeesha Award’ which will be held for the first time at APA16. Mrs. Nandeesha has been involved and the award for the Best Young Scientist Presentation in Aquaculture/Sustainable Small‐Scale Aquaculture Programs/ Research and Dissemination/Gender Studies is strongly based on what Nandeesha would have wanted for this award.

More information about the event can be seen at www.was.org.
