Silent Auction Adelaide

During the recent World Aquaculture Conference held in Adelaide we conducted a Silent Auction to raise funds for AwF. We had 11 items to auction, including:

  • 3 framed photographs which were prize winners of the photograph competition run by International Aquafeed – thanks to the sponsors of the activity for their generosity in enabling us to have the photos.
  • Diploma in Aquaculture
  • Books
  • Adelaide Crows indigenous football jumper and Conference polo shirts

We have acknowledged the generous item donors on the website Donor list and thank them and the purchasers for their great contribution to the total amount raised – A$2420. Thank you also to the many people who helped set up and run the auction. There were some frantic last minute bids as many people entered into the spirit of the activity.

We have kept a small amount of this money in Australia as we hope to have AwF registered as a Charity in Australia and this will be the beginning of the bank account. All other money has been transferred to the US Bank Account.

At the moment those funds are just going into the general account but recently we were contacted by Prof. Gideon ‘Gidi’ Hulata, Dept. of Poultry and Aquaculture, Institute of Animal Science, Agricultural Research Organization, The Volcani Center in Israel as he is retiring and was keen to ensure that his Aquaculture library went to a deserving cause. If we don’t get sufficient funds from other sources, we may need to direct some funds to assist this project.

Volunteer and good friend, Noe Noe (Maymyat Noelwin), has been working with the Myanmar Fisheries Federation to create the AwF Library.  Subject to getting this finalised this will be the first Aquaculture library in Myanmar. Maybe we will be able to get Gidi to attend the inauguration of the library, and present a lecture at the event – work in progress!
