In France, well-known aquaculturist and AwF Foundation Member Denis Lacroix is kindly organising a second Art Expo in aid of AwF. Fifteen professional and amateur artists are participating this time, including Denis himself, his art student son and Yves Harache (a board member of the European Aquaculture Society). The theme of the exhibition will be ‘la mer nourricière’ (the nourishing sea) and, like the successful first expo, it will be held in the Chateau des Mazes, 5 km south of Montpellier. The date of this event is Saturday 11 October 2008. AwF Founder Michael New will give a short presentation on the work of AwF. The artists are, once again, generously donating the proceeds of this expo to AwF.
In the USA, Barry Costa-Pierce (Director of Rhode Island Sea Grant at the University of Rhode Island (URI), a board member of the World Aquaculture Society and well-known in developing world aquaculture) has agreed to contribute US$2,000 to the AwF from the URI Sea Grant Foundation. Barry is also organising a spring fund-raiser at his fish and vegetable education farm (Crystal Rock Farm, Wakefield, Rhode Island. Barry has also created the ‘Ecological Aquaculture Foundation’ (EAF) to get a larger group involved. Provisionally, this event is scheduled for April 26, 2008 and is called the ‘Spring Fling at Crystal Rock: Exploring the Soul of Fish for the AwF’. All donations/proceeds will benefit the AwF. EAF is contributing an initial US$500 and all the food and drinks and hopes that many guests will donate significantly to AwF. Barry can be reached by voice mail at Crystal Rock at (1) 401-782-9279. Further information and directions to Crystal Rock will be provided to all who can come.
